Sharing music is one of my "love languages". I enjoy sharing my music taste with others, and I truly appreciate those that have put me on to great music throughout the years.

Check out what has been heavy in my rotation for the month of February.

Enjoy!

1. What You Need by Tems

[Afrobeats]

This song pulls on your heart strings. It speaks to the emotions you go through in heartbreak and realizing you may not be compatible with someone. Essentially realizing you are not what they need and needing to distance yourself from them.

It is a difficult pill to swallow, but ultimately it is for the best because you realize they were never what you needed either. I think Tems does a really good at conveying her emotions on all her songs, but this one especially touches your soul just a bit more.

2. Show Me by Joey Bada$$

[Rap]

Joey Bada$$ really slid on this track. No questions. I also need to give credit to the production team because they contributed to making such a unique song. It speaks to how love is many things, from actions to words. I believe it is both and they need to coexist.

The music video does a great job of depicting the ups and downs of a being in a relationship. The fact that his real life fiancé, Serayah, stars in the video is adorable! I'm here for Black men showing off their partners and being proud of them.

3. You by Coco Jones

[R&B]

Coco Jones dropped the best R&B album of 2025. She really conveys what it means to be in love on this track. You don't meet people often that make you want to be a better person, but when you are in love, you naturally become a better person because this new person has become such a positive influence on your life.

I believe if someone comes in your life and doesn't motivate you to want to be an even better person than you currently are, it most likely isn't love.

4. LMK by Jastin Martin

[R&B]

I recently discovered Jastin Martin and this song has been on repeat since it was released. She is a Houston born artist whose music reminds me of Victoria Monet and Summer Walker.

It touches on the earlier stages of relationships where you guys are both not trying to come off too eager, but want the other person to know you're available if they want to go on a date and hang.

5. Who Is Your Guy? (Remix) by Spyro, Tiwa Savage

[Afrobeats]

Afrobeats in general is such a feel good genre and this song puts you in a great mood. I prefer the Tiwa remix over the original as I believe she adds an extra razzle dazzle to the song with her verse. She does a similar thing that Beyonce does with the singing almost in a way that sounds like she's rapping.

6. Taboo by Sevyn Streeter

[R&B ]

I enjoy Sevyn's music a lot and I wish more of it was promoted because this song in particular always makes me feel like I'm floating when I listen to it. Her pen is impeccable and you cannot deny that!

.........

7. TIFFANY (B) by IDK, Gunna

[Rap]

I discovered this while listening to Gunna and immediately put it on repeat! I enjoy the production a lot and of course it was produced by Turbo. It is a good song for when you want to flex or talk your sh**. I think that songs like this are necessary because it is very important to be humble, but it is also just as important to know when to talk you sh**.

8. Grateful by Mahalia

[R&B]

Love calls for a lot of reflection. You often think where did things go wrong? or even where did things go right? This song speaks to figuring things out with someone, not wanting to shy from them, and revealing your whole heart to them. The line I do disagree with though is "we don't have to have a label" haha. Things can get blurry and messy when boundaries are not defined, so for me labels are always good. This is a great love song and in theme for Valentine's Day I often played it this month.

.........

9. Road to You by Alex Isley

[Neosoul]

When I first discovered Alex, I had no idea she was related to the Isley Brothers, but you can't deny that musical talent runs in the family. This song was on repeat for me this month because it shows how love in many ways is more of an intentional journey and not something you always want to impulsively jump into.

As I get older I realize that loving from a standpoint of emotional security is the strongest way, because you know that you are choosing that person not out of necessity or insecurity, but because you genuinely enjoy the person they are and the person you are when you are around them. This allows you to always choose this person, and always take the road that leads to them.

10. Nothing Without You by Tanerélle

[Neosoul]

What stands out to me with this song is how vulnerable it is. Not in a codependent way, but moreso in a devoted way. When I listen to it, especially the instrumental solo piece at the end, I feel the emotions throughout my whole body.

It captures intimacy in such a soft way and her voice just floats along with the impeccable production! You don't come across songs like this often, hence why it is often on repeat for me.

Thanks for listening. Be on the lookout for March's rotation!
