Sharing music is one of my "love languages". I enjoy sharing my music taste with others, and I truly appreciate those that have put me on to great music throughout the years.
Check out what has been heavy in my rotation for the month of May.
Enjoy!
1. Gone Girl by Obongjayar, Sarz
[Afrobeats]
This song gives me a mix of horror movie soundtrack and good vibes at the same time. It feels like it should be playing during the credits after a mystery character has been revealed.
It was on repeat this month from start to finish. I'd never heard a song by Obongjayar prior to this but it encouraged me to go look into his catalog some more to see what kind of music he makes.

2. Cn I see u by Uncle Waffles, Royal MusiQ, DJ Lag, BXKS, BarbieSZN
[Rap]
I have to give credit to everyone involved in the production because they created a record that feels both smooth and infectious at the same time. The amapiano elements are layered so well that the song pulls you in from the first listen and keeps its energy throughout.
What stands out to me is how effortless the collaboration feels. Absolutely nobody sounds out of place, and each artist adds to the overall vibe rather than competing for attention.

3. BLOOMIN by jsilos
[House]
If you enjoy KAYTRANADA, you will really enjoy jsilos' music. This track in particular has been on repeat this month because it has been great soundtrack for the month and representative of how upbeat May was for me. There were so many great events that happened this month that were just so feel good.
This is the kind of record I throw on when I want to feel inspired or simply enjoy good music without overthinking it. It has a warmth to it that makes it easy to revisit.

4. Come Inside by Lou Phelps, KAYTRANADA, Jazz Cart
[R&B]
KAYTRANADA's production lays down a funky, danceable foundation, while Lou Phelps and Jazz Cartier bring the perfect amount of charisma and energy to match it. Everything about the song feels effortless.
This is one of those songs that feels equally at home during a summer drive, a kickback with friends, or a night out.

5. Hit the Ceiling (Zikomo Remix) by Zikomo, LION BABE
[House]
The original is amazing but I think Zikomo turnt it up a notch with this remix. He took an already vibrant record and transformed it into something that feels fresh while still honoring the spirit of the original. The production is smooth, soulful, and packed with rhythm in a way that makes it impossible to sit still.
LION BABE's voice still carries the track and that's why it is still so infectious while still keeping the elements of the original song.

6. Rage by Babyboy AV
[R&B ]
Babyboy AV knows how to create records that feel good without forcing the moment. I discovered his sound last fall and have been a consistent supporter since. He gives me similar vibes as Fireboy DML.

7. Rémy by Kvngs
[Rap]
This song gets you ready for the summer vibes! It's one of those main character tracks where you can't help but to feel like the whole world revolves around you. It makes you want to walk into a room and own it. It's the song you play when you want a pick me up, but also the song you play when you feel like the most confident you've ever been. It is a track I found myself gravitating towards quite a bit this month as this was a special month for me.

8. Baddies by Aya Nakumara, Joé Dwet Filé
[R&B]
I dare you to play this and finish the song without whining your waist. It's impossible. Aya and Joé did a great job on this record of creating such a sexy track. It reminds me of a Haitian Kompa track in many ways, but it still remains authentic to Aya's French R&B roots.

9. Mandy by Scribz Riley
[Neosoul]
I actually discovered this song while watching the movie "I Love Boosters." It is the featured track in the opening scene where Keke and Lakeith's character meet in the club. From the first listen, I decided I needed to Shazam it (no shame) and it has been on repeat since. I also got a chance to listen to more of Scribz catalog and he is definitely my new favorite artist right now!
.........
10. Gallery by Dom Kennedy
[Rap]
I have to give credit to Dom Kennedy because few artists can make a song feel this laid-back while still saying something meaningful. His ability to paint pictures through his music is one of the reasons I've always appreciated his artistry, and "Gallery" is a perfect example of that.

Thanks for listening. Be on the lookout for June's rotation!
